The instrumental tracks pitch Silence-scale dirge muscle and a nodding backwoods psych style that slouches through constellations of string huzz with alla the anti-gravity grace of late Tower Recordings or Fairport Convention circa "A Sailor's Life" with a touch of the Palace Brothers/Dirty Three swamp style while the vocal/song pieces sound more like the kind of hysterical glam thud of UK festival satellites like Alex Harvey, T. The Hermit HP Cycle No Cat LP £14.99 Weighty big-band free jazz blow-out from a selection of Louisville's heaviest beards, including members of Sapat and Valley Of Ashes. Great ensemble playing with a heavy ESP-Disk/Heliocentric Worlds atmosphere, the first track sounds somewhere between those early Bill Wells Octet recordings and the outer heavens of John Tchicai's Cadentia Nova Danica. Other tracks are closer to the tight/free polyphony of classic Arkestra with tactile Pat Patrick-styled horn work, breakout drums and on-the-penny ins and outs. Recommended. |

Bellaire Afternoon Hank The Herald Angel Recordings Hank-009 CD-R £5.99 "Alan R.T. - percussion, piano, horns, electronics. Aaron Rosenblum - percussion, piano, strings, electronics. Aaron Rosenblum and Alan R.T. performed together for the first time as members of Sapat in 2004, and both currently perform multi-instrumental roles in that bands mashup of jazz, psychedelia and experimental music. In Deep Pockets, both improvise on a narrower range of instruments and concentrate on the intense musical conversation that is made possible by the duo format. Alan is a member of Sapat, KARK, Valley of Ashes, and Boogie Brothers, and is featured on recordings by Rachels and Jackie-O-Motherfucker. He records and performs solo under several pseudonyms, including Arsenio, Raw Thug, and Arthur Kalow. Aaron Rosenblum performs in Sapat, KARK, Son of Earth, Shackamaxon (with members of Double Leopards and Magik Markers), and Pleasant Colony, and has been a guest member of Wooden Wand and the Vanishing Voice, Sunburned Hand of the Man, and the Cherry Blossoms.
