Excellent 7” reissue of an obscure UK avant/DIY side from the duo of Anne Bean and Paul Burwell, originally self-released in 1979. Pulp Music may ring some bells as a name that turned up on the bill at The Final Academy, the William Burroughs celebration that featured Cabaret Voltaire, Psychic TV, 23 Skidoo et al… and they were also involved with a group of English experimental musicians that included Bob Cobbing and David Toop before going on to found the Bow Gamelan Ensemble. But this single sounds quite unlike any of that, with Bean and Burwell’s vocal screams, grunts and rants backed up with a mountain of free percussion in a way that resembles something somewhere between The No-Neck Blues Band, The Pop Group and some ultra-stripped down No Wave pugilism
