Esteem: Live In Paris 1975 Unheard Music Series ALP260CD CD £12.99 Excellent new addition to the Unheard Music Series, this 1975 live set features the line-up of Lacy on soprano sax, Steve Potts on alto and soprano, Irene Aebi on cello and violin, Kent Carter on bass and Kenneth Tyler on percussion and inaugurates an on-going series of unissued performances preserved in the late saxophonist's cassette archive. Recording quality here is really nice, that slightly cavernous, rough-assed feel that reminds of Joe McPhee's early self-released LPs and the group are totally burning, moving from heavy, gospelised fire music through galloping modal drones and floor-storming hard rock/funk dynamics. Excellent. Includes liners from Jason Weiss. |
