Amacher is best known for her stunning, physically invasive third ear soundings, where the combination of flashing tones, tactile sonics and extreme volume serve to generate phantom tones inside the body itself. She has been known to turn whole rooms into syrup-thick sonic fields that reveal and distort perspective as you move about inside them. This latest work is based on mutated source materials recorded by Amacher herself in a cave beneath the Pyramid Of The Sun in Teotihuacan and then premiered in the Esplanade of the Palacio de las Bellas Artes in Mexico. The winner of the Golden Nica Prix Ars Electronica in the digital music category, Teo! is a four-part sound sculpture that runs through sudden blurts of reverberant percussive klang through almost bagpipe-like mutated sonic scree and scalpel sharp arcs of lunar tone, all rendered in the classic hyper-real Amacher style. |
