Bern Porter & Mark Melnicove
Music For Children Of All Ages Vol.1

Turned Word Records No Cat

LP
£14.99

Amazing archival collection, lovingly curated by Dan Beckman of Village Of Spaces: Porter was a pioneer of found poetry as well as a publisher of amazing works by Kenneth Patchen and Henry Miller. This great LP collects his singing/sound poetry and features some of his best loved works like “The Last Acts Of St. Fuck You”. His voice and manner is deeply American and has less to do with European sound poetry traditions and more with 20th century American vernacular, here coming over like Harry Partch as he repeats and invests phrases with a sense of uniquely American scale, here like Alan Bishop making with one of the those amazing scabrous/hilarious Sun City Girls rants complete with sudden gong tones and background chatter, here like Lord Buckley or Allen Ginsberg or more properly Harry Smith or Jack Smith, with euphoric, breathless readings of cantorial verse  accompanied by a background of wild YESYESYESSES! Elsewhere there are pithy scientific observations, shopping lists, dietary advice, hypnotic tape experiments... a whole world of wonder and naive joy and excitement alongside playful/rigorous language deconstruction. All of the material is on vinyl for the first time ever, much of which has never been heard by anyone outside of Bern’s circle. Comes with a handstamped offset printed covers on recycled jackets with a loose leaf booklet of rare photos and 20 ‘founds’, most never before published. One of the major historical excavations of the past few years, absolutely fabulous and highly recommended!
