Major historically-potent excavation of unheard Sun Ra material ranging from 1973 to 1985. The real gravy here is an unearthed live show from 1985 as the Prospect Park Bandshell in Brooklyn that features the mouth-watering line-up of Sun Ra, Milford Graves (!), John Gilmore, Andrew Cyrille and Don Moye. The group tear apart two untitled tracks as well as a take on Ra’s own “Opus In Springtime” and the fidelity has that classy Saturn feel. Also on the disc is a 1978 rehearsal from the House Of Ra in Philadelphia featuring Sun Ra, Michael Ray, Marshall Allen, Danny Davis, John Gilmore, Eloe Omoe, James Jacson and Michael Anderson with some great sung/spoken directions from Ra and a cool cassette-recorded audio-verite feel. Throw in a final Ra house session from 1973, an untitled jam featuring Sun Ra, Wilbur Ware, Akh Tal Ebah, Marshall Allen, Danny Davis, John Gilmore, Eloe Omoe and ‘probably’ Lex Humphries and you got one of the best treasure troves of rare Ra material to appear in an age. Highly recommended.
