Attic Cassettes No Cat

Cassette
£6.99

New release on Marc Piley’s great new Scottish cassette label, dedicated to extreme DIY damage and loner, oddball sounds. This one is limited to 50 hand-numbered copies and documents a bunch of destroyed post-Harrry Pussy/Black Flag/Mouthus avant rock moves on guitar and drums that beautifully approximates the sound of several collapsing universe. These guys hail from the USA and take their name from a Jandek record.

The Zees
s/t

Attic Cassettes No Cat

Cassette
£6.99

Another excellent new project from Marc Piley’s new Scottish cassette label in a hand-numbered edition of 50 copies. The Zees hail from Switzerland and play fractured drug-downs and de-tuned power dirges that tip the hat to the loose, declamatory style of early electric Jandek, US Saucer, early Royal Trux et al.

New on Marc Pilley’s Attic Cassettes: weird synth/new wave electro-punk songs from a Belgian trio. Hand-numbered edition of 50 copies.

Kurbee
s/t

Attic Cassettes No Cat

Cassette
£6.99

A street musician from Vancouver, who Marc Pilley describes as “Moondog with ghetto blasters”, Kurbee makes fairly hypnotic compositions using cracked beats, percussive electronics and cranked cassette players. Hand-numbered edition of 50 copies.

Zach Kerouac
Attic Trunk

Attic Cassettes No Cat

4xCassette Box
£24.99

Massive new box set from Marc Pilley aka Zach Kerouac on his own Attic Cassettes imprint. A hand-numbered edition of only 25 copies, Attic Trunk comes in an oversize moulded plastic case with wraparound colour art. The sonics represent the most formally-challenging fork in the eye yet from Marc, with huge pile-ups of Industrial harmonica, the klang-on-klang of post-Sonny Murray drum kit detonations and the most evocative use of realtime reel-to-reel loops and F/X, making it sound like a Masonna/Harry Pussy jam as tape-doctored by Brian Eno circa Roxy Music’s For Your Pleasure and ripped straight to cassette. Another monster.

Black Sparrow Dress
s/t

Attic Cassettes No Cat

Cassette

Attic Cassettes No Cat

Cassette
£6.99

“Chris Atwood lives with his wife Rachel in Austin, Texas. I had the great pleasure of staying with these guys a summer ago while the joke that is South-By-Southwest was on. These are demos for an album Chris was recording for his band The Jetcards in 1978-79. Fuckin sounds like Shuggie Otis jamming with Sandy Bull to me! So happy to be able to release this.” – Marc Piley. Hand-numbered edition of 50 copies.

The Pushman
s/t

Attic Cassettes No Cat

Cassette
£6.99

De-tuned percussive guitar harmonics and railroaded six string squeal from another new French unit specifically attuned to the Mars/Sonic Youth guitar attack, with some malformed Jandek-isms thrown in. Hand-numbered run of 50 copies on Marc Pilley’s imprint.

Soda-ville
s/t

Attic Cassettes No Cat

Cassette
£6.99

More French electro-acoustic minimalism on Marc Pilley’s imprint in a hand-numbered run of 50 copies. This one is based around lurching cells of looped percussion and feedback tones, accumulating psychedelic intent with every circuit. Second instalment of unearthed demos from this late-70s US basement group.

Holly Hollis
Places Without Faces

Attic Cassettes No Cat

Cassette
£6.99

No info on Holly Hollis at all except it hails from Texas but this mysterious new release on Marc Pilley’s excellent Attic Cassettes label features a stream of high-wire Industrial percussion instants and electro-convulsive shocks that somehow combine the DIY ritual of The New Blockaders’ first recordings with the hand-made sculptures of Harry Bertoia and the apocalyptic tone of Einsturzende Neubauten. One of the best Attics yet. Hand-numbered edition of 50 copies.

Down At The Banks

Saddletramps
s/t

Attic Cassettes No Cat

Cassette
£6.99

Excellent cassette from this mystery unit on Marc Pilley’s Attic imprint, with a set that starts off with some watery-sounding solo guitar that doesn’t sound like John Fahey or Loren Connors but somehow inhabits the same universe before fading into muzzy drones and psych keyboards in a way that recalls the pastoral violence of Flying Saucer Attack or These Wonderful Evils. Edition of 50 copies.

Zoooos
s/t

Attic Cassettes No Cat

Cassette
£6.99

Limited to 50 copies cassette album from this new group with a coupla braincells focussed on the sub-gulchural sounds of The Screamin’ Mee Mees, Gizmos, early Mike Rep et al.

Idea Fire Company
Candle & Fog Pts 1&2

Attic Cassettes No Cat

Cassette
£6.99

Hand-numbered edition of 50 copies cassette album from the trio line-up – Scott Foust, Karla Borecky, Matt Krefting – of Idea Fire Company. “IFCO have been fiddling with candle & Fog since 2007 and this is a nice version. Different instrumentation than is usual for us with Karla playing guitar, Matt Krefting manning the synth and me on bass. Very static and organic. Not a million miles away from some of the extended bits of the wonderful Gilbert & Lewis records. I originally edited this in two ten minute chunks for a C20, but I have to admit it sounds pretty nice all on one side with a side of waste.” – Scott Foust.

Kat Fitzgerald
s/t

Attic Cassettes No Cat

Cassette
£6.99

Edition of 50 copies cassette from Attic Cassettes, back from the dead. Kat Fitzgerald is a Canadian solo artist with a huge Aaron Dilloway crush, creating minimal tone pieces from tape loops and scavenged sound. Odd, unarmoured abstracts with an awkwardness of construction that best resembles Jessica Rylan/Can’t’s homemade electronics.

Limited edition of 50 copies cassette from the newly revived Attic Cassettes. Rubber Fish come from Mexico and play a form of psychedelic noise rock as crude and confused as early Reynols.
