From the label that brought you the last Brainbombs LP, this solo LP from European record collector/thinker/musician Tom Karlsson is an unexpected jewel. I’ve seen this described as a harsh noise record a bunch of places but that’s nowhere near the truth. Pojnacke is a collection of work that inhabits the universe of the Nurse With Wound list so completely that in a blindfold test you’d swear it was recorded sometime pre-1980 by some nut in a hut in the mountains with nothing but a chip on his shoulder, a bucket of acid and a buncha weirdo avant garde LPs. Some of the cut-up spoken Euro tongue over hovering electronics sections connect directly with the Nurse With Wound catalogue but there are other parts that just as well go beyond it, zoned folk-psych miniatures that have me thinking of Joakim Skogsberg, tape work worthy of Sperm, even some lush psychedelic tonefloat in the mode of early Ash Ra Tempel. But it all hangs together really well, and it has the feel of something that was very carefully put together. If you’re at all attuned to hermetic European avant garde weirdness and your idea of a frontman is closer to Walter Wegmuller or Jac Berrocal than some skinhead bozo in combat pants then this is a perfect shot of surrealism in sound from outta nowhere. Comes in a gatefold sleeve.
