Edition of 250 copies LP that documents a duo performance by New Zealand guitarist/inventor Greg Malcolm and American improviser/polymath Eugene Chadbourne. Consisting of inspired demolitions of tracks by Steve Lacy and Eric Dolphy, the duo play droning, fragmented avant garde string dunt that occasionally echoes the thematic material but mostly extrapolates into string constructs that are as otherworldly as Susan Alcorn’s pedal steel work and as radical as Keiji Haino’s strings. The interaction is genuinely odd, with a feel for structure and form that is highly personal. Malcolm’s playing always has a tactile post-drone appeal and to hear him tangled up in Chadbourne’s shockabilly stylings is a treat. Radical, beautiful guitar music.
