s/t Tee Pee TPE-005 LP £11.99 Debut album from J Mascis's new prog/metal project sees him back in the drum-seat and hooked up with bassist Dave Sweetapple, guitarist/vocalist Kyle Thomas and guitarist Asa Irens. The weight of steel on display here tends more towards Sabotage-era Sabbath and prog burners like Salem Mass - albeit with some baroque British pro-Satan string-jizz - than contempo metal-as-grunge panto queens like Sunn O))) etc and the vocals even have a little Di'Anno/Gillan to em. Who the fuck would've thought it? Throw in some totally addictive fuzz riff/pillage, satisfyingly stupe scif-fi/biker lyrics and no irony whatsofuckin ever and this one sits real fine at VT HQ. |
