Sonic Oyster Cassettes 006

Cassette
£7.99

Stunning new cassette from the duo of Stuart Crutchfield and Kevin McCarvel that pretty much cements their reputation as the best ‘rock’ band in the UK right now, with six tracks of devolved drums/guitar/vocals/electronics that come over like the early Royal Trux cassette that Xpressway never released. McCarvel’s vocals exist on the very limits of subliminal sound with the feel of a more beatific Michael Morley hovering over raggedy guitar kinetics that stagger in and out of clipped melodies w/a martial aspect that is totally exhilarating. Throw in the collapsing universe feel of your favourite South Island satellite and the kind of epic fuzz/ reverb excursions that could easily be Japanese and you got alla the ingredients for the cassette release of the year thus far. And, sure, they may feature a baldy, but there ain’t no laptops in sight. This is bloodied freeform rock at some kind of deformed tactile apex and easily their most accomplished release to date. Edition of only 50 copies, already sold out at source, highly recommended!

Buddha On The Moon
Passage

Sonic Oyster Cassettes SOC-007

Cassette
£7.99

“A new 'Buddha on the Moon' release to usher in 2012. 'Passage' takes its starting point from the mesmeric bass line of 'The Other Side of the Ocean' and gently sets sail on a calm and balmy voyage of the inner-psyche. This is meditational music with a kick: as melody starts to boil and bubble: free-form percussion and barely-contained space drone providing rich, absorbing dark ambient tones. If you were lucky enough to grab a copy of 'Between Seasons', then you're definitely going to need this. Already a contender for my record of 2012.” – AP. Edition of 50 copies.

A Cluster Of Stars

Sonic Oyster Cassettes SOC-008

Cassette
£7.99

Slow motion bowed guitars and twilight piano improvisations in a series of stately drone madrigals: "A twilight recording of cosmic star dust bringing into being ethereal guitar and transcendental piano, 'a cluster of stars' is an immersive journey to whence we came. Recorded straight to two track; it is the duo's maiden voyage." - Will Klingenmeier. Edition of 50 copies.

Jazzfinger
Night Fall At Borrowed World

Sonic Oyster Cassettes SOC-009

Cassette
£7.99

Welcome return for this legendary UK underground cell from Newcastle, piloted by Ben Jones and Hasan Gaylani now for many, many years: edition of only 50 copies six-track cassette album that occupies a nocturnal zone of bowed and struck electro-acoustic soundings somewhere downwind of Organum, NNCK et al. That patented Jazzfinger dead-at-the-steering-wheel drone, achieved through the obsessive application of busted cassette decks, is at the heart of this new work, with pulsing low-grade atmospherics over slow Chalk-like accordion drones, buzzing, tactile string work... aspects of MEV’s sci-fi/Industrial masterpiece, Leave The City w/a similarly dramatic and atmospheric approach to junkyard ritual make this one of the highlights of the SOC catalogue to date: recommended!
