Jackie-O Motherfucker
Liberation

All Tomorrow's Parties ATPRCD-10

CD
£11.99

Great reissue of Jackie-O’s 2001 follow-up to Fig.5, the considerably more expansive Liberation welds the savage/joyous folk spirit of that particular landmark onto some minimal, slow-blowing free rock/jazz, with high lonesome brass chugging the tone from wired electric guitars and stubby drum machines.

Fursaxa
Mycorrhizae Realm

All Tomorrow's Parties ATPRLP-38

LP
£11.99

New album from Tara Burke’s Fursaxa, with guest appearances by Helena Espvall (Espers/Ghost et al) on cello and Mary Lattimore on harp. Mycorrhizae Realm moves even deeper into the woods than her last few releases, with a sumptuous musical palette that resembles classic acoustic/devotional era Popol Vuh or the more stoned side of Neu ’75. “Poplar Moon” is a classic slice of UK-addled acid folk, with a Mellow Candle/Wicker Man atmosphere and a steady, hypnotic delivery. The addition of harp and cello brings to mind the kind of lucid acoustic settings of Ghost’s classic Second Time Around but the dosed early music atmosphere is pure Fursaxa. Nobody does it better. Recommended.
