Nothing People
Anonymous
S-S Records SS-036
LP
£11.99
Full-length album from this great Californian avant-garage/new wave ensemble that combine, apocalyptic late night electro-threat with a sleazy glam-punk edge that would’ve sat just right on the same bill as Suicide and The New York Doll’s at Max’s Kansas City. There’s a weird decadent, sci-fi edge to the music that conjures the kinda pre-punk psychedelic pooftery of ensembles like Victoria Vein & The Thunderpunks, Debris, Twinkeyz et al along with some choice Euro synth austerity and UK post-punk moves that makes the overall cut of their jib seem kinda approximate to a DIY take on Roxy Music although it sits just as well with established west coast art-rock moves like Chrome, Minimal Man et al. Either way, this is another great, weird modern rock record and is highly recommended. Edition of 600 copies.

Los Llamarada
Take The Sky
S-S Records SS-038
LP
£13.99
Excellent new LP from this Mexican destructo-rock combo with a more focussed attack than previous releases and one that welds hysterical male/female vox to demolished monochord Fall riffs, the kind of bulldozed rock form of The Dead C/Vertical Slit, collapsing rhythms, two-chord punk-outs and sudden invasions of heavy keyboard drone that are supremely disorientating. A classic lo-fi avant/garage side.

Nothing People
Soft Crash
S-S Records SS-047
LP
£11.99
More beautifully weird post-Velvets sci-fi new wave from this west coast group that combine paranoid electricity and a pre-punk glam kick that’s as crude as Victoria Vein & The Thunderpunks. There’s a newly evolved pop sensibility on Soft Crash that comes through on the best tracks, like the garage swagger of “Marilyn’s Grave” or “Friend Or Foe”, a track that has alla the amplified menace of the crudest Stooges rehearsal tape. No one does the sound of the American night like Nothing People.
