I Don’t Want To Live Forever
Gameboy LE-1
CD
£8.99
Excellent new solo album from this renowned solo conceptualist, Nmperign member and accomplished stand-up comic. I Don’t Want To Live Forever apparently features Kelley on trumpet and spring drum but for much of this evocative, murky trip you’d be hard pushed to identify anything as known sound. There are weird moments of scrape, squeak and gale that sound like Prick Decay covers and shots of violent electronic gush that could’ve come from the bloody gums of Don Dietrich while at other points it sounds like a void of grey cloud gathering round the base of your skull. The whole thing feels more like a cassette assemblage than any collection of ‘live tour highlights’ – maybe he had his recorder in his pocket for the entire time – and there’s plenty of hands-on technique here: loops, splicing, erasing and chopping. And check out Kelley’s mouth-watering list of conceptual referents/inspirants: “Harry Pussy: Vigilance cassette [Chocolate Monk], AMM/MEV: Live Electronic Music Improvised LP [Mainstream], Walter Marchetti: De Musicorum Infelicitate CD [Alga Marghen] (that one actually makes particular sense), Tommy James: Crimson & Clover.” Fuck yeah. Recommended. Edition of 500.
