Every new Keiji Haino album is something of an event at VT HQ but the fact of a new vocal/electric guitar album on PSF has a particular significance that always makes it feel like one of Haino's major statements. Yaranaiga Dekinaikotoni Natteyuku pulls together a bunch of disparate threads that seem to stretch across Haino's entire solo discography, with song forms and repeat-cells of chords, feedback and distortion that reference his early masterpiece, Affection, through the kind of still, late-night loop constructions that best defined To Start With, Let's Remove The Colour. Plenty of beautiful vocals here, with Haino's spindly, jazz-inflected single-note runs combined in frail, laminal architectures before being blown apart with blasts of immolating overload. Totally fantastic and with a particular striking light-from-the-void style black/white sleeve. Highest recommendation.
